Civic Association Serving Harlem(s), Inc. (C.A.S.H.)
by: Michael Stuart
Harlem’s flagship not-for-profit organization is none other than Joe Kelly’s CASH organization. Organized almost 30 years ago as a citizens’ group to help rid the community of rampant crime and protect its senior citizens, CASH, or the Civic Association Serving Harlem, Inc. has evolved into the premier community organization serving the hard-pressed and unemployed, especially those who have had an encounter with the criminal justice system.

The Bible is the “411” for information; the “911” for emergency; the “711” for communication; the “311” services; the “611” for repair; and the “0” (Operator) for “Help!” It is the answer to the questions, the solution for the problems, the treatment for the conditions, and the promises for the future.
