A Ballad for Harlem Conversation: Making Community

December 2, 2019 6:30pm
Join us for a conversation about the convening power of the barbershops in Harlem and Black communities throughout the country and around the world. The conversation will feature Kamal Nuru, President, Levels Barbershop and Barber World TV; Quincy Mills, author of Cutting Along the Color Line: Black Barbers and Barber Shops in America; Harlem barber Polo Greene, Harlem Masters; and other invited guests.
Presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) presentation of Barber Shop Chronicles by Nigerian-British playwright Inua Ellams, who weaves a rich tapestry of unfiltered stories about father-son relationships and black masculinity, set to an Afrobeat score.
Get to the Schomburg Center early to view A Ballad for Harlem exhibition and join the conversation.
