Church Foreclosed
With the number of members in its congregation dwindling, the Mount Moriah Baptist Church has closed its doors, according to the Harlem + Bespoke blog. The church, located at 2050 Fifth Avenue between 126th and 127th streets, faced a foreclosure auction in June, public records show. But while the asking price for the property was listed as $2.8 million, it closed for just $480,000 in July. The church had been fighting to stay afloat in recent years, reports indicate, often supplementing its income by drawing in area tourists to view the noted religious center. Area experts say an increasing number of churches in Harlem have been struggling to keep their doors open
