The debut feature from Tereza Nvotová, one of Chytilová’s students at FAMU, is both a sensitive portrait of a 17-year-old girl processing the trauma of rape and a hard-hitting indictment of the Slovak mental health system which fails her. Carrying on the feminist social critique at the heart of Chytilová’s work, Filthy fearlessly confronts the stigma surrounding sexual assault in Slovakia in order to give voice to survivors.
