First Fridays: Labor Day “Carnival” Edition

carnival_edition_2017September 1, 2017 6:00pm – 10:00pm
For more than 92 years, since it was first founded, the Schomburg Center has been passionate about representing Caribbean communities and people across the African Diaspora. That’s why we are thrilled to present our third annual First Fridays: “Carnival” Edition! “Celebrating 70 years of Caribbean Culture and History with WIADCA.” Back by popular demand, one of our most popular First Fridays events returns with steel pan drummers, stilt walkers, mass camp, and sponsored tables. Come ready to proudly rep your countries with paraphernalia and flags!
Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey is proud to power First Fridays hosted by The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. The popular monthly social gathering celebrates culturally relevant occasions through local talent and Jack Daniel’s is honored to be a partner to amplify this mission. Your friends at Jack Daniel’s remind you to drink responsibly.
First Fridays guests are invited to check out our wonderful pop-up display, “Caribean History,” featuring items from the Schomburg Center collections, sign up for a Schomburg Society membership, and visit the Schomburg Shop—while networking and dancing the night away! Our host for the night will be Dhalimu from Dhali’s Closet, who along with our deejays, DJ Slyk and DJ JP, and live performers will there to bring down the house in celebrationof Carnival!  See you there! Age limit: 21+. #FirstFridays
