Handsworth Songs

March 26, 2019 9:00pm
Directed by John Akomfrah | 1986
One of the defining works by the trailblazing Black Audio Film Collective, this freeform documentary mosaic explores racial tensions in Britain through the lens of the 1985 Handsworth riots that rocked Birmingham. Through an impressionistic mélange of newsreel footage, photographs, and interviews, Handsworth Songs arrives at a powerful, allusive, and deeply personal statement about the black British experience.
