Harlem Jazz Parlor Festival – Martin Luther King Jr.
Harlem Jazz Parlor Festival – Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. This is a three day event featuring three different artists. Come for a two-hour intimate experience providing a haven where music lovers can relax, enjoy the music, and engage with musicians while enjoying hors d’oeuvres, wine, and dessert.
Harlem Jazz Boxx will feature a trio of dynamic artists this weekend.
Craig Harris – January 16, 2016 – Craig Harris exploded onto the jazz scene in 1976, bringing the entire history of the jazz trombone with him. From the growling gutbucket intensity of early New Orleans music through the refined, articulate improvisation of the modern era set forth by J.J. Johnson, and into the confrontational expressionism of the ’60s avant-garde, Craig handled the total vernacular the way a skilled orator utilizes the spoken word.
Bob Stewart – January 17, 2016 – Over the last 40 years Bob Stewart has established himself as both an innovative tuba player and equally creative jazz educator. As a band leader, recording artist, and featured soloist Mr. Stewart’s playing has been featured on over 80 recordings. He has performed and recorded with such luminaries as Gil Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, McCoy Tyner, Charlie Haden, Sonny Rollins, Charles Mingus, Carla Bley, Wynton Marsalis, Jason Moran, Lester Bowie, Muhal Richard Abrams, Henry Threadgill, Arthur Blythe, Jimmy Heath, Frank Foster, David Murray, Chaka Khan, Dap Kings, and Aretha Franklin to name a few.
Joe Daley – January 18, 2016 – Joe Daley has had nearly 40 years of recognition as one of the consummate sidemen on the adventurous music scene – with remarkable artists like Sam Rivers, Carla Bley, Gil Evans, Charlie Haden, Taj Mahal and so many more. Also performing with with his evocative Ebony Brass Quintet; or in the sparer solo, duo or trio contexts; sheer musicality, deeply-hewn emotion and jubilant innovation are always at the core of Joseph’s most singular musical expression.
This is going to be epic! Three great performances to choose from.
