Living Color: Black 90s TV

May 18, 2019 6:15pm
While black filmmakers were making crucial strides in the fight for representation on the big screen, black television creators were experiencing a boom of their own. Bringing together clips from popular hits and memorable music, this program surveys the rich variety of television shows that brought black faces, experiences, and cultures into millions of American living rooms. The lasting legacy of these series will be discussed by an expert panel moderated by Racquel Gates, Assistant Professor of Cinema & Media Studies at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, featuring Khalil Kain (actor and star of Girlfriends), Nore Davis (comedian, actor, and TV writer), Janelle James (comedian and TV writer), and April Reign (activist and #OscarsSoWhite founder).
