Both a Cave Canem & Poets House alum, Mahogany L. Browne is the Poetry Program Director of the Nuyorican Poets Café, MFA Candidate for writing & activism at Pratt Institute, an activist, publisher & educator. Browne is the founder of Women Writers of Color Reading Room & the author of books Dear Twitter (Penmanship), Smudge (Button Poetry) & NAACP Nominated Redbone (Willow Books).
reg e gaines’ The Last Celebrity
reg e gaines is a Tony-Award-nominated playwright and Grammy-nominated lyricist (for Bring in da Noise/Bring in da Funk), a Heideman Award Finalist (for The Beatles Killed Jazz), and winner of the 2003 Downtown Urban Theater Festival’s Best Play Award (for Other Aspects). This former Nuyorican Poets Café Grand Slam Champ has read his poems on: The Arsenio Hall Show, Jon Stewart Show, MTV’s Spoken Word Un-Plugged, Woodstock ’94, MSNBC’s Edgewise and Seasons Four/ Five of HBO’s Def Poetry. His work as a composer includes the score for Senior Year, a thirteen episode series on PBS. reg will return for his ninth season as Artistic Director of the 2016 New York City Downtown Urban Theater Festival and is Director of The Bridge, a Summer musical theater program in Camden, New Jersey. He was recently commissioned to direct Through The Looking Glass, by Center Theatre Group.
