Storytelling Workshop with Pickney Productions

Tuesday, April 26, 2016 |11:00am – 12:00pm

Join in on a storytelling workshop with Pickney Productions!

Malika Lee Whitney and the Pickney Players present storytelling programs that celebrate and affirm long held cultural practices. The workshops and performances captivate audiences of all ages weaving threads that create binding ties among listeners. The stories reflect experiences and themes that honor traditions of the past with relevance to contemporary times.  Ms. Whitney’s unique storytelling style actively engages through call and response, song, poetry and encourages active role-playing and participation in the stories being told.

Pickney Productions has facilitated many intergenerational oral history programs at venues such as the New York Historical Society,  Apollo Theater, Museum of the Chinese in the Americas, Elders Share the Arts,  Fordham University, New York University, at schools, community and senior centers throughout New York City.  Ms. Whitney also produced  Aging Gracefully for WBAI Radio which focused on the importance of oral history and storytelling.

This project is funded by the New York City Council’s Parks Equity Initiative, Council Member Ritchie Torres.
