Matty Rich was just 19 when he directed this raw slice of 90s neorealism, which he financed with credit cards and community donations and which went on to win prizes at Sundance and the Independent Spirit Awards. Drawing on his own experiences growing up in the Red Hook housing projects, Rich fashions an unflinching portrait of a young man determined to pull his family out of poverty—by any means necessary.
