The 1865 w/ Major Taylor
January 18, 2020 9:00pm
Blues-punk supergroup the 1865 has described its sound as “Bad Brains meets Foo Fighters in a black woman’s hair salon for a cup of tea.” The fivesome highlights the past with a warning for the present, with songs like “John Brown’s Gat” and “Buckshot” landing somewhere between a history lesson and a battle cry. The Brooklyn band includes founder and lead guitarist Sacha Jenkins, percussionist Chuck Treece, Afro-Brazilian bassist Flora Lucini, drummer Jason “Biz” Lucas, and Carolyn “Honeychild” Coleman on lead vocals and baritone guitar. Chicago-based DJ, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Major Taylor opens the evening, bringing together his love of punk, reggae, hip hop, and electronic dance music.
