Vincent Chancey Band – Harlem Afternoon Jazz Series

VChancey-RFeichtenschlagerJune 16, 2015 – 12PM – Over the past 25 years, Vincent Chancey has built a solid reputation as an accomplished and totally dedicated French horn player, performing in a wide variety of musical contexts, and as an increasingly active composer. He first came to prominence as a regular member of the Sun Ra Arkestra, later spending six years with the Carla Bley Band. In 1984, Mr. Chancey joined Lester Bowie’s Brass Fantasy and was featured on all nine of the group’s recordings. For many years Mr. Chancey played and recorded with the David Murray Big Band, in addition to performing with Chick Corea, Cassandra Wilson, Shirley Horn, Randy Weston, The Gil Evans Orchestra and The Mingus Orchestra. He has also performed with many popular artists including Ashford and Simpson, Maxwell, Aretha Franklin, The Winans, Elvis Costello, Charlie Haden Liberation Orchestra, and many more. In 2000, Mr. Chancey had the honor of playing a performance for Pope John Paul II’s 80th birthday concert. The French horn is Mr. Chancey’s natural voice, and he is devoted to achieving wider recognition for the horn as a jazz instrument.
