This chic restaurant and lounge is West Harlem’s newest, hottest venue. Bringing many talents to this trendy part of the city, 9A Kitchen & Lounge offers a variety of notable talents to its guests. From a delicious selection of sushi rolls, to decadent, hot and chocolaty fried Oreos for a naughty dessert, 9A is on point with top-notch culinary trends. Incorporating a selection of mouthwatering Southern favorites on its menu in addition to a trendy sushi bar, this sports lounge and restaurant has created a unique, savory culinary fusion for all to enjoy.
Seating one hundred fifty people, the lounge and restaurant accommodates multiple “zones,” including lounge seating, a bar, stage, and lively DJ booth. And from an absolutely divine menu, neon flashing lights and exposed brick, to lavish seating for relaxing, managing partners Julie Grunberger and Rigo Herasme made this new star in the neighborhood a lively, and stylish gathering place to have a fun evening out in the city. Grunberger explains that 9A is a hot spot where “anyone can truly enjoy a great meal, unique cocktails, exciting sports games, music, design and ambiance all at the same time.”
We had an awesome experience at 9A, beginning our night with a fun kickoff. The Guacamole appetizer is prepared to perfection, avocado creaminess melting in your mouth, and spread upon the restaurant’s warm homemade Tuber Chips. For our main course, we had the wonderful opportunity to indulge in Chicken & Waffles – hot and fluffy red velvet waffles with crispy fried chicken, topped with pure maple mascarpone cheese. This is a Joonbug favorite, recommended for anyone scoping out this chic spot for the first time. Next, commending our first dining experience at this new venue, we just had to try the 9A sushi roll from the restaurant’s “Stop, Drop & Roll” section on the menu. The roll is made with juicy lobster tempura, lettuce, fresh wrap with celery, red onion, and cucumber with both mango sauce and creamy ranch. The roll is presented beautifully on a plate – food artistry at its best – garnished with beautiful purple flowers. To accompany our meal, we relished three side dishes. Whipped Sweet Potato, Mac & Cheese, and Collard Greens were served to us in three dishes on a platter. A must-try side is the Collard Greens. They are succulent, very flavorful, and lusciously juicy. And of course, for dessert we had to go big or go home. Our dish of choice was the Fried Oreos. They are completely sinful; Oreos at their finest state…fried – crispy on the outside and squishy chocolaty goodness on the inside.
